Ptolemy’s Digression: Astrology’s Aspects and Musical Harmonics (2008)

This essay explores a half-hidden musical rationale for the conventional ancient astrological aspects that appears in Ptolemy’s Tetrabiblos I.  The number relationships between the aspects follow not arithmetical patterns as much as the diatonic scale, showing how planets can come into contact based upon their distances from one another.

 

 

Practical Introduction to Hellenistic Astrology (2007)

            This essay traces the beginning of the decline of the George Bush presidency to the predictive indicators that first began to appear near his birthday in July, 2005.  We use both ancient and modern indicators.

 

The Peculiar Development of the Modern Astrologer (2000)

            This essay addresses the effect on professional astrologers of our culture’s ambivalent and stereotyping attitudes toward astrologers.  What results is stunted personal and professional growth by astrologers and a tendency among astrologers to needlessly feud with one another.  Ends with suggestions for remedy.

 

The Structure of Cycles: Ptolemy and Rudhyar Revisited (1998)

            This essay presents the ancient and modern astrologer and their depictions of the cycles of the zodiac, the Sun-Moon phases, and the Moon Nodal cycle.  It concludes that some difficulties in Rudhyar’s approach can be remedied through a close reading of Ptolemy.

 

Moon, Saturn, and Boundaries (1996)

 

            Using contemporary psychodynamic concepts, particularly from Gestalt Therapy, this essay articulates the conserving functions of two planets that we often think are antithetical to one another.  Its content is pure psychological astrology.

 

Five Issues in Astrological Counseling (1996)

Presented at ASC conference.

 

            Applies principles for a good counseling session to the particular situation of the astrological consultation.  Includes implicit communication at the time an appointment is set up through expectations for follow-through.
